:::About me:::

My Solidworks Career

I have been using Solidworks (SW) since late 1995, early 1996. I acquired my CSWP at the 2001 SWWC in Orlando Florida. I have had Level 3 Excel Training to help in the making of interesting and unique Design Tables and Automation tools during the period of 2000 to 2002. Since that time I received my CSWST09 certification and now I am working towards my Surface Certification, and later down the road, the Solidworks Expert Certification..

Present Job

After 15 years of Designing, Solidworks Power training, Offical Training, Customer service and other skills I have accquired over the years I finally got the job I have been wanting for soooo long. I am presently working as a Closed Top Design Engineer and CAD Administrator, for Berry Plastics. This has been a dream job for me, not only to get into the biggest corporation in our city, but the biggest plastic Mfg of the country and quite possibly the world. Also being the CAD Administrator is the onne job I figured out I wanted at least 7 years ago. Being the CAD Admin is alot like being in Technical Support for the VAR, except I support 100+ users in serveral different locations around the country and if those users have a problem I call the VAR now. Most of the people that call me might be upset, but the good thing about this is, is I am on their side no matter what and its my job to get them a solution ASAP. I find this job to more enjoyable than either of my Technical Support jobs. The one perk I also love about the CAD Admin Position, is I get to go to all the Solidworks World Event each year. That only was a selling point for me.

As a Design Engineer for Closed Top design of Plastics parts, is a learning step for me. Even though, I don't have an offical Engineering Degree, I will be responisble for any and all design I produce the same as if I were a certified Engineer. Now I am not one to take a title that I did not earn, but at this time that is the title they gave me. Maybe in time I will go back to school and earn that degree like so many of my Engineering friends have. To continue... I look forward to not only learning about plastics to such the degree I need too, but also I plan to move up to Bottle Design and then in Open top Design (Buckets). Plastics is a different field, but I have come full circle over the last 15 years and I am finally back to Product Design... the one type of Design I love more than anything I have done in the past. I plan to stop jumping around and plant my feet into this company and stay here till one day I might retire.

Plus I might have more time to spend on www.eng-tips.com now.

Previous Job

My prior job was working for Evana Automation Specialist as a Mechincal Designer. The opportunites there where great. As of this 2009 I am also became the Vice President of the Southern Indiana Solidworks User group. We had our first meeting December 21st and for our first meeting I would say it was a success since we had 16 people show up. If you are an Southern Indiana resident and you use Solidworks or if you want to be a part of our group please email either myself or Twaka Tyus (President).

Previously I worked for Fisher Unitech, one of the biggest and one of fastest growing VAR's Nothern US. The area included Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinios, Missouri, and Kansas. I enjoyed working from home, but needed to get back out in the real world of designing.

Prior to working for Fisher Unitech I worked for another VAR 3DVision and they covered the Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana area. I have learned a lot about Solidworks and all the add-ins. PDMworks is amoung the list, along with Routing and Electrical. Working for a VAR is a great job and by having such a job you learn and respect those that do this everyday. Customer service is not easy to do and it takes skill and patience along with a good attitude to help calm down those customers that are just down right rude. But I got my foundation at 3DVision and I have to give them a big "Thank You" for all their support and help that they gave me over the years of service there. So if you are reading this Todd Majeski, THANK YOU!

Before I came on board with 3DVision 5 years ago (2002). I worked at George Koch Sons, LLC. My job at George Koch Sons, LLC was to find the best way to make Solidworks work in a strickly AutoCAD enviroment. At the time they wanted to move CAD systems over to Solidworks. I did plenty of large assembly jobs that in the end turned out to be some of the best learning experiences and time reducers I had ever done. The Large assemblies were completely in-contexted (Top-Down Design) and the use some Intermediate to Advanced Excel coding of a Design table. One job that I was very impressed with cut the design time down by 75% from the time of Concept to finished drawings. The assemblies were fully automated and just needed a series of choices to be selected and the assembly updated and the drawings were completed. Outside of some Cosmetic changes the drawings were complete.

I started at Hansen Corporation 6 months after I graduated from College in Spring of 1995. While I was there I built and learned how to design small electric motors in Solidworks. My primary job there was to make changes required by Engineering Change Orders. I managed to get over come over 2500 drawings done in just over 4.5 years and total at the time that was around 5000 on file. None of the drawings were in Solidworks and even some that were in the books were even in a CAD package. When the ECO was released to me I added the Parts\Assemblies that had to be created and then the drawings were completed. Solidworks was released about 3 months prior to me taking this job and we started it using approximately 4-6 months after I started with the company.

Solidworks is a GREAT program and has given me a lot of opportunies and happiness. Solidworks has provided me a skill and love for design that I never thought I would ever have before. My desire to use the system and design on it has been absoluetly great and I would not change any of it.

Thank you,
