:::Import DWG/DXF to Sheet formats:::

1) File\Open and select the DWG\DXF

2) Follow the DWG import menus –

a) Create New drawing\Convert to Solidworks Drawing - Next
b) Select the right layers make sure they are either on or off. - Next
c) Output File properties (select the size)
d) Select Document Template “Drawing”
e) Make sure the drawing is “Centered in Sheet”
f) After you finish all your settings click “Finish”

3) Since you are using a DWG\DXF import. You will have to Locate and copy the DWG file to the Sheet format layer\side. Window Select the import Sheet Format and select “Edit\Copy”

4) RMB (right mouse button) the sheet and select “Edit Sheet Format”

5) Without selecting anything else, select “Edit\Paste”

6) The sheet format will show up in the upper left hand corner. From here you locate it. Window Select the entire sheet format.

7) Go to Tools\Sketch Tools\Modify

8) Use the left Mouse button to drag the entire sheet. Drag it to the center of the sheet (Eye ball it) close counts.

9) Optional – When you bring in a DWG file you are still using the layers from Acad. I suggest that you turn on the “Line Format” toolbar and select “Color Display Mode”. This will allow you to tell the difference when you are editing the sheet or editing the sheet format. When editing the sheet the Titleblock will be gray in color. When you are editing the sheet format the lines will be blue in color and the model will have disappeared.

10) After you have located it, RMB the sheet again and select Edit sheet.

11) Remove the old DWG that still exists on this layer\side. This is the sheet we copied and pasted.

12) Once you have completed the above steps do a File\Save as\ Change the Save as Type to Template and give it a name

13) Also you must do a File\Save Sheet format. This will allow you to change between sheets during the making of a drawing. Example: you are making a file on an A size sheet and you don’t have enough room, you can RMB the sheet and select “Properties” and from there select your B-size sheet format and the drawing size will increase and it will not affect the model.
